Chief Warrent Officer Sean Mahany U.S.N. (Ret.)

 

 

Following graduation from high school in 1978 Sean Mahany enlisted in the Navy with a specialty in aviation ordnance. In 1995 he was commissioned as a Chief Warrant Officer and assigned to the VS-24 Scouts of NAS Jacksonville, Florida where he gained extensive knowledge of the Lockheed S-3 Viking. While assigned to the Scouts Sean logged over 600 flight hours in the S-3. He retired from the Navy in June of 2006 with 26 years of active duty service. In 2001 Sean assisted the Sanford Airport Memorial Committee in the acquisition and recovery of their RA-5C Vigilante from China Lake California. He then organized a three year restoration effort and managed a group of twenty team members. The Vigilante is currently on display at the Orlando-Sanford International Airport in the NAS Sanford Memorial Park. In 2003 Sean assisted in the recovery of the Memorial Committee's second aircraft, the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura. He is currently director of aircraft restoration for the PV-1 which will be placed on display in the same location in May 2008. Sean currently resides in his hometown of Sanford, Florida. 

 

 

 

Sean is the Restoration Director for the Sanford Memorial Committee and he has directed the total restoration of this PV-1 Ventura over the last 18 years.  The aircraft will be installed into the newly constructed Sanford Airport Main Terminal Building.

During WW II the current Sanford airport was a Naval Air Station and was the primary training and operation facility for this type PV-1 Vetura Patrol Bomber.  The aircraft is the property of NNAM Pensacola in FL.
